Sixty pairs of iron shoes on the banks of the River Danube – Holocaust Memorial
The „shoe memorial“ in Budapest is called Shoes on the Danube Bank and it honors the victims, particularly Hungarian Jews, who were shot into the Danube River by Arrow Cross militiamen during World War II. The memorial consists of 60 pairs of iron shoes, cast in the style of the time, on the Pest side of the river, symbolizing the shoes that victims were forced to remove before being executed.
Victims were ordered to take off their shoes (shoes were valuable and could be stolen and resold by the militia after the massacre), and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. The memorial represents their shoes left behind on the bank.

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell
The exhibition presents a selection of his finest works from the Tate Collection, putting them in the context of a turbulent moment in British art, imagination and history. Blake’s enduring images will be shown alongside works by the artists who most inspired him, including Henry Fuseli, Benjamin West and John Hamilton Mortimer, as well as artists – such as William Turner, James Berry, Samuel Palmer – who were inspired by him.
William Blake – Newton
William Blake (1757-1827) is a towering presence in British art and literature. His visionary works in painting, print and watercolour have gone on to inspire generations and are now, two hundred years later, recognised as a unique contribution to world culture. The great originality of his art and poetry continues to inspire today. But he was not alone – many British artists embraced the irrational and emotional, took up highly subjective themes, and sought out renewed spirituality or escape during these decades.

Central Market Hall sundown
The Great Market Hall or Central Market Hall, Market Hall I (Hungarian: Nagyvásárcsarnok[ˈnɒɟvaːʃaːt͡ʃɒrnok]) is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest, Hungary. The idea of building such a large market hall arose from the first mayor of Budapest, Károly Kamermayer, and it was his largest investment. He retired in 1896 and participated in the opening ceremony on February 15, 1897.
It is located at the end of the famous pedestrian shopping street Váci utca and on the Pest side of the Liberty bridge at Fővám square.
Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meats, pastries, candies, spices, and spirits. Many of them have items that are popular with tourists: paprika spices, Tokaji wine, Túró Rudi, kolbász sausage and salami can be found there. The second mezzanine floor has eateries and tourist souvenirs. The basement contains fish mongers, picked vegetables stalls and a few specialized butcher shops.
It offers a unique glimpse into Hungarian culture and daily life and can be a fun stop for a snack.
Bargaining: While not common, you can sometimes haggle for a better price, especially on the first floor with the souvenirs. Language: English is widely spoken, but learning a few basic Hungarian phrases can enhance your experience and endear you to the vendors.
The Liberty Bridge (or Freedom Bridge, in Hungarian „Szabadság híd“) is the shortest among the Danube bridges of Budapest.
